===1.    Purpose:===
<p style="margin-bottom:15px;">The purposes of the Undergraduate Admissions, Progression, Graduation & Scholarship/Grant Committee are to establish criteria for admission, progression, and graduation; to select candidates for admission to undergraduate programs; and to award grants and scholarships to undergraduate nursing students.</p>

===2.    Functions:===
<ol style="list-style-type: lower-alpha; margin-bottom:15px;">
<li>Establish criteria and policies to be utilized for the admission, progression and graduation of undergraduate students.</li>
<li>Review and evaluate the applications and make recommendations to the Dean regarding the admission of applicants in accord with the criteria.</li>
<li>Review admission progression and matriculation data post admission acceptance to identify trends for failure to matriculate and make recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Director of Undergraduate Programs and/or the Division Assistant Dean, or committee.</li>
<li>Review progression reports and formal program evaluations annually to detect patterns and problem areas and make recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Director of Undergraduate Programs and/or the Division Assistant Dean, or the committee.</li>
<li>Review and recommend candidates for graduation. </li>
<li>Award scholarships/grants to students according to established criteria and academic policies and procedures.</li>
</ol>

===3.    Membership:===
<ol style="list-style-type: lower-alpha; margin-bottom:15px;">
<li>The chairperson (or co-chairs), is/are elected annually by the committee members. The chair (or co-chairs) must be a faculty member. The chair (or at least one co-chair) shall have served a minimum of one (1) year on the committee. </li>
<li>The Undergraduate Admission, Progression, Graduation & Scholarship/Grant Committee will consist of the following elected membership for three-year terms, staggered so that no more than 3 positions are open for election in a given year:<br />

===4.    Guidelines:===
<ol style="list-style-type: lower-alpha; margin-bottom:15px;">
<li>The committee will meet at least monthly during the 9 month academic calendar year. </li>
<li>On an annual basis, the committee will review criteria utilized for admission, progression, and graduation of students and recommend changes to the faculty for final action.</li>
<li>All elected members have voting privileges including the chairperson. The Director of the Undergraduate Programs, an ex-officio member, has voting privileges in the case of a tie. </li>
<li>Student members will be excused when confidential student items are discussed.</li>
</ol>

<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">A minimum grade of C may be acceptable for graduate level courses, but a receipt of 2 C’s may be cause for dismissal.</li>
<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">Any grade below a C is not acceptable for graduate credit.</li>

<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">A student whose overall GPA is below 3.0 will be placed on academic probation and have 2 semesters to meet the 3.0 GPA criteria.</li>
<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">All students must apply for candidacy 1 semester before filing for graduation.</li>
<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">The following criteria for candidacy have been established by the Professional Graduate Nursing Program Admission, Progression, Graduation & Scholarship Committee:

<li>Completion of one year of graduate study or its equivalent</li>

<p style="max-width:67em !important; margin-bottom:15px;margin-left:3em;">All travel will comply with the policies, procedures and guidelines established by the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, (http://info.unmc.edu/) in addition to the policies and procedures of the College of Nursing. All travel approval and reimbursement is contingent on alignment with College priorities and availability of travel funds.</p>

====II. APPROVAL REQUIRED PRIOR TO TRAVEL====

====III. TRAVEL FOR SCHOLARSHIP====
<p style="max-width:67em !important; margin-bottom:15px; margin-left:3em;">Faculty members are encouraged to present scholarly work. The presenting author will receive priority for support. When additional authors attend the same meeting, less or no support may be provided for their travel. The first presentation of a paper will receive priority over subsequent presentations of that paper. Consideration will be given to the number of trips supported for an individual.</p>
<ol style="max-width:67em !important; margin-bottom:15px; margin-top:15px;" >Priority for approval of travel requests will be given to the following types of requests:
<li style="margin-left:3em;">Presentations of scholarly papers.</li>
<li style="margin-left:3em;">Meetings of regional, national or international organizations of which the college is a member and should be represented for voting and information purposes, e.g., American Association of Colleges of Nursing, Midwest Nursing Research Society, etc.</li>
<li style="margin-left:3em;">Travel to receive a regional, national or international award or recognition.</li>
<li style="margin-left:3em;">Meetings of regional, national or international organizations of which the individual is a member and can network to recruit faculty or students and otherwise increase visibility of the college.</li>
<li style="margin-left:3em;">Workshops and conferences for faculty and staff development and/or to promote the CON strategic plan, e.g., teaching, practice and research at the college.</li>
</ol>
<p style="max-width:67em !important; margin-bottom:15px; margin-left:3em;">Reimbursement in general does not cover the full costs associated with travel and is based on funding available and the priorities listed above. Reimbursement from accounts other than state-aided (e.g. grants, faculty development accounts, etc.) may be at 100% if appropriate. All conference registrations must be approved prior to completing the registration form, if a UNMC P-Card is used for payment.</p>

====IV. TRAVEL FOR OFFICIAL COLLEGE BUSINESS====
<p style="max-width:67em !important; margin-bottom:15px; margin-left:3em;">Travel is sometimes required in order to conduct the business of the College. Guidelines are established to provide faculty and staff with reimbursement for authorized, legitimate travel required while supervising clinical experiences in clinical agencies, attending required meetings, or otherwise conducting official College business.</p>

===1.    Purpose:===
<p style="max-width:70em !important; margin-bottom:15px;">The purposes of the Undergraduate Admissions, Progression, Graduation & Scholarship/Grant Committee are to establish criteria for admission, progression, and graduation; to select candidates for admission to undergraduate programs; and to award grants and scholarships to undergraduate nursing students.</p>

===2.    Functions:===

<li>Establish criteria and policies to be utilized for the admission, progression and graduation of undergraduate students.</li>
<li>Review and evaluate the applications and make recommendations to the Dean regarding the admission of applicants in accord with the criteria.</li>
<li>Review admission progression and matriculation data post admission acceptance to identify trends for failure to matriculate and make recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Director of Undergraduate Programs and/or the Division Assistant Dean, or committee.</li>
<li>Review progression reports and formal program evaluations annually to detect patterns and problem areas and make recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Director of Undergraduate Programs and/or the Division Assistant Dean, or the committee.</li>
<li>Review and recommend candidates for graduation. </li>
<li>Award scholarships/grants to students according to established criteria and academic policies and procedures.</li>

<li>The chairperson (or co-chairs), is/are elected annually by the committee members. The chair (or co-chairs) must be a faculty member. The chair (or at least one co-chair) shall have served a minimum of one (1) year on the committee. The chair-elect for the following year is elected annually by the committee members. The chair elect shall have served a minimum of one (1) year on the committee.</li>

<li>The committee will meet at least monthly during the 9 month academic calendar year. </li>
<li>On an annual basis, the committee will review criteria utilized for admission, progression, and graduation of students and recommend changes to the faculty for final action.</li>
<li>All elected members have voting privileges including the chairperson. The Director of the Undergraduate Programs, an ex-officio member, has voting privileges in the case of a tie. </li>
<li>Student members will be excused when confidential student items are discussed.</li>

===Policy:===
<p style="margin-bottom:15px; max-width:70em !important;">Applicants from accredited baccalaureate programs in nursing are considered for admission to the CON’s Professional Graduate Nursing Degree Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. United States citizens, prior to admission to the graduate program, must be legally licensed to practice nursing in one of the 50 states. Foreign citizens not legally licensed to practice nursing in the United States shall provide evidence that they have the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Students, prior to enrollment in clinical courses, must meet Registered Nurse Licensure requirements in the particular state/states in which they are participating.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:15px; max-width:70em !important;">Applicants with an Associate Degree from an accredited program may apply to the CON’s LEAD specialty program. Applicants must refer to this specialty area for additional details.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:15px; text-decoration:underline;">English as a Second Language</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:15px; max-width:70em !important;">Applicants whose language of nurture is not English must present current (within the last 5 years) scores from instruments that measure listening, structure, reading, writing and oral communication competency in the English Language. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Pearson Test of English are acceptable examinations to demonstrate English language competency.</p>

<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">The minimum scoring standards are as follows:

<p style="margin-bottom:15px; max-width:70em !important;">Faculty representing specialty areas recommend applicants for admission to the CON’s Professional Graduate Nursing Admission, Progression, Graduation and Scholarship Committee. The CON’s Professional Graduate Nursing Admission, Progression, Graduation and Scholarship Committee is the official voting body and reviews all recommendations for admission from specialty areas; a majority vote is required after establishment of a quorum. Preference is given to residents of Nebraska, to individuals who wish to pursue study that can be adequately supported by UNMC CON resources, and to those who have adequate preparation. </p>
<ol style="max-width:70em !important;">
<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">The following guidelines may be used to evaluate applicants:
<ul>
<li>BSN to MSN track: A BSN degree from a National League for Nursing Accrediting
Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited
school of nursing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.</li>
<li>Post-Masters’ track: A masters’ degree from a National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited school of nursing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.</li>
<li>A personal statement that responds to specific questions addressing educational and professional goals including the applicant’s area of practice interest.</li>
<li>Curricula vitae or professional resume.</li>
<li>Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, including non-nursing coursework.</li>
<li>Three letters of recommendation (preferably from persons holding a doctorate) submitted electronically by the recommender. At least one letter should be from a faculty member in the applicant’s previous program who can attest to the applicant’s ability to successfully complete the program.</li>
<li>A personal or telephone interview.</li>
<li>On occasion faculty representing a specialty area may recommend admission for an applicant whose GPA is below the required minimum. Additional qualifications may be considered such as leadership and practice experience in the nursing profession.</li>

== Policy ==
Human tissue obtained through clinical procedures or for research may be used within the Nebraska Medical Center campus or transferred to external organizations consistent with the Nebraska Medical Center campus mission of patient care, teaching, research and outreach. Tissue obtained for clinical and/or research purposes is the property of the Nebraska Medical Center Academic Clinical Enterprise (i.e. UNMC, UNMC Physicians and The Nebraska Medical Center). Use and transfer of human tissue shall take place in accordance with the procedures below to ensure applicable regulatory and ethical standards are met. This policy applies to physical tissue and not to tissue images.

''Human tissue'' is tissue, blood products, serum, DNA and other biological materials or specimens that are obtained from (1) patients as a part of their regular clinical care that would otherwise be discarded or archived, or (2) patients or other individuals who have agreed to donate their specimens obtained specifically for research or for deposit into tissue repositories.<br /><br />

''Transfer'' means tissue sent outside the Nebraska Medical Center campus organizations.<br /><br />

== Procedures ==
#'''Transfer for clinical purposes'''
#* Medical. The Nebraska Medical Center Pathology Department has responsibility and authority over clinical use of tissue. Tissue may be transferred into and out of the Nebraska Medical Center campus in accordance with The Nebraska Medical Center policy MS.11, "Removal of Specimens". Patients may also request transfer of their tissue to another health care provider for clinical purposes in accordance with Policy MS.11.
#:All vendors providing pathology services to patients must be approved by The Nebraska Medical Center Board of Directors as recommended by the Medical Staff and as required by Joint Commission, CAP and CLIA standards. Health care providers who wish to utilize a new external pathology vendor must submit a proposal to the Director, Clinical Pathology.
#* Genetics. The UNMC Munroe Meyer Institute Human Genetics Laboratory (HGL) and Molecular Genetics Laboratory (MGL) follow CLIA and Human Genetics Laboratory protocols. The Laboratories refer specimens for testing only to CLIA certified laboratories or laboratories meeting equivalent requirements as determined by the HGL or MGL. All specimens received by the HGL and MGL must have written orders and instructions from the referring laboratory and comply with CLIA and HGL regulations.
#* Dental. In accordance with the UNMC College of Dentistry Infection Control Policy as revised June 2011, "extracted teeth or other removed body tissues may be given to the patient from whom they were removed if the patient requests them."

#:The UNMC Institutional Review Board (IRB) has responsibility and authority over research use of tissue in the Nebraska Medical Center clinical enterprise. See the resources listed below or contact the IRB to obtain additional guidance in this area. The principal investigator in charge of an existing tissue bank may transfer tissue for research purposes to external individuals/organizations utilizing a material transfer agreement (MTA). The Medical Director of Anatomical Pathology or the Director of the HGL or MGL, depending on the location of the tissue, shall determine if there is sufficient tissue to meet research requests.<br /><br />
