===Policy===<br />
<p style="max-width:70em !important;">As a practice discipline, clinical experience is an important and integral part of learning. It is during these experiences that socialization to the profession, exposure to the interprofessional teams, self-organization, and clinical competencies are advanced to demonstrate safe, quality patient, family, and community-centered care. Clinical competency must be validated, therefore, absence from clinical learning is discouraged except under urgent or emergent circumstances.</p><br />
<p style="max-width:70em !important;">Students who are absent from their clinical experience, which should only occur in the event of urgent or emergent life event, will be expected to:</p><br />
<ol style="max-width:67em !important;"><br />
<li>Inform the clinical faculty member at the earliest possible date of the absence, with rationale.</li><br />
<li>Make up the clinical hours to the extent possible by taking responsibility to work with the clinical faculty member and/or, with the help of the faculty, the clinical agency where the clinical experiences take place.</li><br />
<li>Make up the clinical hours by the end of the semester in which they occur.</li><br />
<li>Accept the consequences of missing clinical if accommodations cannot be made.</li><br />
<li>If a clinical day is missed, progression in the program is jeopardized.</li><br />
