1.    Purpose:

The purpose of the Exam Support Committee (ESC), through continuous quality improvement (CQI), is to implement a process of rigorous, high-quality examination within the CON. The ESC promotes exams that are faculty-driven, student-centered, and that are consistent with the standards of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

2.    Functions:

  1. Promote faculty professional development opportunities on examination components for development, implementation, and analysis.
  2. Collaborates with Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UGCC) in determining policies for testing and provides semi-annual reports to UGCC.
  3. Provide guidelines for exam development and item writing.
  4. Provide guidelines on post-exam item analysis decision making.
  5. Review and provide feedback on exam items.
  6. Collaborate with Evaluation and Effectiveness Committee (EEC) to ensure assessment processes align with external expectations (CCNE and NCBSN)

3.    Membership:

  1. Chairperson, elected from the membership by committee members for a one (1) year term.
  2. Chair-elect, elected from the membership by committee members for a one year term. The chair elect may become the chair the following year.
  3. Eight (8) faculty members elected for three (3) year terms. Faculty can run for one (1) additional term and then must be off the committee for one year before rerunning.
  4. At least one (1) faculty member is elected from each campus for a total of five (5), and an additional three (3) faculty members elected at-large, preferably not all from the same campus, and elected in staggered years to avoid having a majority of committee members change at the same time.
  5. The minimum criteria for membership is teaching responsibilities that include testing in the undergraduate program
  6. Director of Undergraduate Program, Director of Evaluation, and Online Testing Resource Coordinator will serve as ex officio members.

4.    Guidelines:

  1. All members will complete the NCSBN Test Development and Item Writing course within 3 months of beginning of committee term.
  2. Meetings will be held a minimum of monthly during the academic year.
  3. All elected members shall have voting privileges.
