On behalf of the McGoogan Library welcome if you are new to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The Library continues to look for resources to help you in your role as a faculty member, researcher, mentor to your students, or a new staff member. The following briefly highlights some of the services you will find useful.

An Orientation Libguide to introduce you to the Library. You will find valuable information on how to use various library resources as well as tour the library electronically. For resources specific to Nursing a Nursing Libguide will introduce you to the nursing related resources provided in the Library. Have questions when librarians are not available? Check out the Library FAQ which contains answers to the most commonly asked questions posed by the UNMC community.

From the Library's home page under Quick Links you can choose to search CINAHL or CINAHL with e-Books. You will also find an array of other valuable online databases to search for journal articles with many of them available in full-text.

More and more of our online resources are being formatted for mobile devices. We’ve created a Mobile website with these links, plus more! You can even bookmark us on your smartphone http://www.unmc.edu/library/m/

Keep up-to-date with library news and happenings by becoming our fan on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/mcgooganlibrary or subscribe to our Library Blog.

Do you have a question? Call the Reference Desk at 402.559.6221 or email askus@unmc.edu . You can now even text or chat online a Reference Librarian. Questions will be answered Monday – Friday, between 8 am and 5 pm. Add us to your contacts list with 402-370-5016 for text messages and the chat box is on the Library's home page.

Not in love with searching MEDLINE or CINAHL? We are! Let us do the work for you. We offer a free literature search service. Most of our customers request MEDLINE, CINAHL, or PsycINFO searches. We try to return search results to you within 24 hours of receipt. An online "Search Request Form" is available on the Library's home page. You can also request searches in person or by calling or e-mailing the reference department (see contact information at the end of this message).

Do weeks fly by when you are unaware of new publications in your field? When you request Current Awareness Service, we set up a search or multiple searches tailored to your individual needs and e-mail you a list of newly indexed articles every week. We can provide this service for articles indexed in MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PsycINFO. To request Current Awareness Service, email Cindy Schmidt or call 402-559-7077.

Would you like some extended, one-on-one help with CINAHL search techniques? Does your class need instruction on CINAHL search techniques? The Library's reference and education librarians will be delighted to help with any of your library-related training needs. Email Marie Reidelbach or call 402.559.7087 to arrange training. You may also stop by the reference desk between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday for immediate assistance.

Use RefWorks to help you create and manage bibliographies? Cindy Schmidt or Teri Hartman provide one-on-one Refworks help upon request. You may email Cindy or call 402-559-7077 or email Teri or call 402-559-7075 for more information. You will find useful handouts and tutorials from the Refworks Tips, Tricks, and Guides.

Do you need a book or journal article that the library does not own? Want a copy of an article in the library's print collection? The Interlibrary Loan Department can obtain these items for you. You can place your request online using the "Order Articles" link on the Library's home page. Through this interface, called McGoogan Docs, you will need to create a user account when using the service for the first time. There is a charge for this service with the exception of items that can be obtained from University of Nebraska Libraries (UNL, UNO, or UNK). When the journal article or book chapter is placed into your McGoogan Docs account, you will receive an email notification. The average turnaround time is 1 business days. Additionally, the Chancellor's Leadership Council, student fees, and the library subsidize up to 50 requests for students each fiscal year (July - June).

If you need further information or wish to request a service:

Once again welcome and remember to contact the Library with your information needs.
