General Position Description

The Assistant Deans of the Omaha, Lincoln, West Nebraska, Kearney and Northern Divisions are appointed by the Dean and responsible to the Dean for leadership in meeting the goals of their respective division and assuring congruence with the mission and vision of the College of Nursing and UNMC.

FTE Allocations for the Assistant Dean Role

Administration (0.50)

  • Ability to negotiate based on the needs of the division.

Teaching

  • Ability to negotiate based on the needs of the division and expectations for the Assistant Dean.

Research/Scholarship

  • Ability to negotiate based on the needs of the division and the expectations for the Assistant Dean.

Service

  • Ability to negotiate based on the needs of the division and the expectations for the Assistant Dean.

Practice

  • Ability to negotiate based on the needs of the division and the expectations fo the Assistant Dean.

Other Duties

  • Collaborate with the Director of Administration and Operations quarterly to review the annual budget.
  • Utilize resources judiciously for the good of the Division and the College.
  • Create an environment of financial stewardship among the division faculty and staff.
  • Be responsible for overseeing the building facility and assignment of classrooms, assuring adequate and appropriately maintained space.
  • Provide oversight to faculty in identifying appropriate clinical sites to meet educational standards and objectives and make the most judicious use of these sites.
  • Assign appropriate staffing and functioning of the Learning Resource Center, Simulation Space, and technology (iWall, VR, halo lens, etc.)
  • Ensure that faculty and staff are appropriately trained on equipment and technology in the Learning Resource Center and Simulation Space.
  • Prepare annual reports as requested by the College of Nursing and UNMC.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Appointment Requirements

  • Holds a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field and a graduate degree with a major in nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in academic leadership role.
  • Possess experience and demonstrate skills in administration, interpersonal relations, teaching, and curriculum development, as well as demonstrated scholarly activity.
  • Proven leadership experience in program, faculty, and staff development.
  • Able to motivate and build consensus among faculty and staff.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Creative problem solver.
  • Ability to manage conflict resolution.
  • Must be registered to practice nursing in Nebraska and demonstrate professional leadership activity in professional organizations.
  • Terms of employment are in keeping with current University of Nebraska policy.
  • Eligible for UNMC graduate faculty status.
