General Position Description

The simulation faculty educator has expertise in simulation-based education (SBE) and is responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to design, facilitate, evaluate, and revise SBE at their designated division ensuring evidence-based practice, standards, and guidelines are integrated throughout to achieve student learning outcomes. Each division will be assigned a simulation faculty educator. The workload allocation for this position is determined by the assistant dean at each division in consultation with the simulation center director based upon the college’s workload appendix.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversees formalized simulation training for faculty and staff.
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and healthcare providers to design, develop, implement, evaluate and revise SBE based on participant(s) knowledge level, skills, abilities and expected outcomes.
  • Ensures the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation & Learning (INACSL) Healthcare simulation Standards, evidence-based practice, standards, and guidelines are integrated SBE.
  • Assist in the selection of simulation modalities and fidelity for SBE identified needs.
  • Ascertains the method of participant evaluation prior to the SBE.
  • Pilot-tests new or revised SBE with facilitators and edit prior to actual SBE.
  • Facilitates a learning environment that incorporates professionalism, active learning, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.
  • Mentors, supports, and provides constructive on-going performance feedback to SBE facilitators.
  • Ensures policies, procedures, and protocols are established, maintained, and updated.
  • Assures SBE compliance with professional accreditation and regulatory bodies.
  • Create and maintain a psychologically safe SBE environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Creates a community of practice to network with colleagues to share ideas, best practices, and support each other.
  • Assists with student and facilitator SBE evaluation using reliable and valid tools.
  • Orients faculty and staff to operate manikins and simulation technology.
  • Identifies and recommends equipment and resources necessary for SBE.
  • Participates in simulation tours and community activities.
  • Fosters interprofessional partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to impact learning and patient care outcomes.
  • Pursues on-going simulation professional development to maintain expertise.
  • Contributes to scholarship within the CON related to educational technology and simulation.
