Purpose
Establishes guidelines for systematically organizing content and navigation on the Learning Management System (LMS) for course delivery.
Policy
- Per UNMC requirements, all College of Nursing (CON) courses use Canvas as the learning management system to deliver course content.
- Protected Health Information (PHI) about patients/clients is not permitted in Canvas (including dates of service, except year) since the LMS is not Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant. For patient-sensitive data, only use UNMC-approved cloud storage solutions (Microsoft Office 365 and Enterprise Box).
- The CON Instructional Technologist team creates the LMS sites for each course offered each semester following the guidance in the example template on Canvas.
- Course coordinators update the site with the current semester's information, resources, assignments, etc.
- Syllabi are loaded into the site by the office associate or course coordinator. Course coordinators are responsible for loading the division-specific addendum if applicable.
- Course coordinators must open the site for student viewing no later than one week (7 days) prior to the beginning of the semester.
- The course site must include the items listed below in this sequential order, starting with Home as the first item.
