Policy:

1. The College of Nursing shall promulgate written standards which shall be used in making all recommendations on promotion and awarding continuous appointments. The standards are applicable to all faculty in departments and divisions.
2. Information concerning continuous appointments, continuous joint appointments, and promotion may be found in the Board of Regents Bylaws, Chapter IV, Rights and Responsibilities of Professional Staff.
3. University of Nebraska Medical Center Guidelines for Submitting Academic Promotion and Tenure Recommendations are available at the University of Nebraska Medical Center website for academic services: http://www.unmc.edu/academicservice. The applicant must follow the instructions in these Guidelines.
4. The College of Nursing Promotion and Tenure committee establishes Standards for Promotion and Tenure for Academic Rank (Appendix A1). The College of Nursing has established submission deadlines. Submission dates are posted on the College of Nursing intranet: Promotion and Tenure at the following URL: http://mycon.unmc.edu.
5. The College of Nursing Promotion and Tenure Committee solicits external reviews of applicants for promotion and/or tenure. Applicants must indicate whether they waive or retain their right of access to review letters. The form (Appendix A1) indicating the applicant's decision regarding access to external reviews must be signed before letters are solicited.
6. The candidate for promotion and/or tenure can appeal the College of Nursing Promotion and Tenure recommendation on the grounds that it was capricious, arbitrary, or prejudiced.
7. Post-Tenure Review of all faculty holding continuous appointment will be conducted congruent with the information in the Board of Regents Bylaws RP 4.4.3 and University of Nebraska Medical Center Guidelines for Submitting Academic Promotion and Tenure Recommendations (updated annually). The purpose of the post-tenure review process is to assist tenured faculty in achieving their professional goals and maximizing their contributions to the University throughout their professional careers, to provide assurance to the public that tenured faculty are accountable for their performance and productivity, and to provide continued peer involvement in the review of tenured faculty members.
   
   The standards for substantial and chronic deficiency have been determined by the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Nursing faculty.
