Purpose

Upholds the integrity, fairness, and operational effectiveness of the College of Nursing’s internal academic and governance processes. It manages student academic appeals, disciplinary grievances, and faculty committee nominations.

Functions

Academic Review

  • Review and adjudicate formal student appeals related to academic evaluations ensuring due process as outlined in university policies.
  • Provide guidance and information to students, faculty, and administrators regarding the academic appeal process.
  • Submit written reports and recommendations to relevant academic leadership.
  • Review bylaws of the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska and related procedures annually.

Disciplinary Appeals and Grievances

  • Review formal disciplinary appeals and student grievances for further investigation and hearings.
  • Convene hearing committees to evaluate disciplinary or grievance cases and determine appropriate outcomes.
  • Maintain records of outcomes and provide annual reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs (ADAP).
  • Annually review disciplinary appeals and grievances policies and procedures.

Nominations

  • Facilitate the nomination and election process for faculty and student membership on standing and special committees.
  • Ensure equitable representation across divisions and maintain compliance with committee composition rules.
  • Maintain and update master list records of standing and special committee memberships and terms.

Membership

  • All faculty voting members of the General Faculty Organization (GFO) who are .50 FTE or greater are equally eligible for membership on this committee, except for the following:
    • The dean, ADAP, undergraduate, professional graduate and graduate program directors, division assistant deans, and undergraduate program coordinators.
  • There will be 15 total faculty members on the committee. Ten undergraduate and five professional graduate and graduate faculty members will be selected by a vote from GFO. This is a two-year term.
    • Two faculty members teaching in the undergraduate program will be selected each from the Kearney, Lincoln, Northern, Omaha and Western Nebraska divisions.
    • Five at-large faculty members will be selected to represent the professional graduate and graduate programs.
  • There will be a total of 15 students who are part of an on-call pool to be available as needed for disciplinary and academic appeals. This is a one-year term. Students are not required to attend regular meetings.
    • Two undergraduate students representing each of the five divisions, who are in good standing, will be selected at the beginning of each academic year.
    • Five students, who are in good standing representing the professional graduate and graduate programs, will be selected at the beginning of each academic year.
