General Position Description

The Director of Global Health is accountable for the administrative, financial, and programmatic effectiveness of the College’s international activities. In partnership with the CON Global Health committee, the director is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of international programs in the College. The director represents the College at university level planning for international programs in education, research, and practice. In addition, this position represents the CON in funding initiatives and at the global and strategic level.

Organizational Relationships

The Director of Global Health reports to the Associate Dean for Transformational Practice and Partnership in this administrative role and works collaboratively with the Global Health Committee to support the tripartite mission from a global perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for effective international activities of the College, both in exploring new opportunities and in maintaining on-going programs,
  • Provides leadership in developing and implementing strategic vision related to global health,
  • Supports and leads the College in developing and maintaining effective relationships with partners local and abroad,
  • Establishes, maintains, and evaluates international programs to meet standards and regulations of nursing education at home and abroad,
  • In partnership with the UNMC Office for Global Engagement, the CON Office for Global Health and the Global Health committee, assures students and faculty are prepared for international travel representing the CON,
  • In partnership with the Global Health Committee, evaluates student performance during and after international activities and provides mentorship and feedback,
  • In partnership with the Global Health Committee, advises on curricular initiatives related to global health,
  • Orients new faculty to goals and aims of international programs,
  • Provides guidance, counseling, and support as needed for students and faculty during an international activity,
  • Oversees the processes internal to UNMC for international exchanges and other international activities,
  • Enhances cultural and professional learning that results from student and faculty activities abroad, and
  • Engages in an active program of scholarship, preferably focused on global health issues

Appointment Requirements

  • A bachelors and a graduate degree in nursing and an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field
  • Registered to practice nursing in Nebraska
  • Must have vision for and experience in international affairs
  • Strong ability to work well with many cultures and other disciplines
  • S/he has knowledge, skills and abilities in international nursing education, current issues of international security, travel, and visa requirements
  • Ability to assume independent responsibility and accountability for program development, implementation and evaluation
