General Position Description

The Director of International Programs is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of international programs in the College. S/he is accountable for the administrative, financial, and programmatic effectiveness of the College’s international activities. The Director represents the College in UNMC planning for international programs in education, research, and practice and in funding initiatives. S/he reports to the Dean in this administrative role, and, as a member of the faculty, participates in the tripartite faculty role of teaching, research, and service.

Organizational Relationships

S/he reports to the Associate Dean for Transformational Practice and Partnership in this administrative role, and, as a member of the faculty, participates in the tripartite faculty role of teaching, research, and service.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for effective international activities of the College, both in exploring new opportunities and in maintaining on-going programs;
  • Supports and leads the College in developing and maintaining effective relationships with partners;
  • Establishes, maintains, and evaluates international programs in order to meet standards and regulations of nursing education at home and abroad;
  • Prepares and trains students and faculty ahead of international visits;
  • Evaluates student performance during and after international activities and provides mentorship and feedback;
  • Leads student, faculty and curricular initiatives to build international programs;
  • Orients new faculty to goals and aims of international programs;
  • Provides guidance, counseling, and support as needed for students and faculty during an international activity;
  • Manages the processes internal to UNMC for international exchanges and other international activities;
  • Enhances cultural and professional learning that results from student and faculty activities abroad.
  • Is recognized for leadership in international programs;
  • Invited for speaking engagements, conferences, consultation and publications within the international nursing community; and
  • Engages in an active program of scholarship.

Appointment Requirements

The Director of International Programs must have vision for and experience in international affairs, and a strong ability to work well with many cultures and other disciplines. S/he has knowledge, skills and abilities in international nursing education, current issues of international security, travel, and visa requirements; and ability to assume independent responsibility and accountability for program development, implementation and evaluation.
