General Position Description

The Assistant Dean of Finance & Operations in the College of Nursing has oversight of the College’s operations and administrative services. These include human resources; academic and staff personnel support; facilities, infrastructure and capital project management; fiscal and business management and other administrative duties as assigned.

Organizational Relationships

The Assistant Dean of Finance & Operations reports directly to the Dean and works closely with the Dean in the overall administration of the College. S/he collaborates with the College of Nursing Associate and Assistant Deans, Directors, faculty and staff to advance the College’s strategic initiatives. External to the College, the position collaborates with the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, the Associate Vice Chancellor/Director of Budget Analysis and Financial Compliance as well as with peer personnel throughout UNMC and represents the College in various University-level councils.

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Oversight and coordination of daily operations of the College performed by staff.
  • Provides direct organization, supervision, support and evaluation of Dean's staff.
  • Acts as administrative liaison for the College of Nursing staff.
  • Liaison with campus administrative offices such as Human Resources, Budget and Finance, and Business Services.
  • Facilitates and develops short-, long-range, and strategic plans.
  • Facilitates policy development, interpretation, and implementation.
  • Ensures administrative, financial and human resource policies and operations comply with University, State, Federal, Board of Regents, and other standards.
  • Facilitates and develops complex contractual agreements in collaboration with University General Counsel.
  • Assists hiring managers in analysis of workflow and business needs, assuring alignment with College strategic goals.
  • Directs, implements, analyzes, executes and provides recommendations regarding the Dean's directives in personnel and financial activities, strategic objectives, and operational activities.

Appointment Requirements

  • Master’s degree required in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting or related field.
  • At least six years’ progressively responsible administrative experience to include experience with operations and personnel management of complex organizations.
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated progressive responsible and successful leadership in operations finance, and administration in Higher Education/Academic Health Center.
  • Current and relevant experience in budget development, Human Resources, and pro-forma development in Higher Education/Academic Health Center
