General Position Description

The Director of the CRISP will be responsible for the overall administration and management of Center activities which includes building a research infrastructure and facilitating the research productivity of CRISP scientists. The Director will provide overall leadership for organization and operation of the CRISP.

Organizational Relationships

The Director of CRISP reports to the Associate Dean for Research of the CON. The Director is a member of the College of Nursing Executive Council and collaborates with College of Nursing leadership and faculty to see that the activities of CRISP are consistent with and supportive of the College’s strategic priorities. Consistent with CRISP’s vision to collaborate, innovate and promote research productivity of its members, the Director collaborates with the Associate Dean for Research and informs CON members of the resources and available infrastructure for research provided by the Niedfelt Nursing Research Center such as mock reviews, statistical consultation, grant budget development and post-award monitoring. The Director has a consultative relationship with the CON Dean, the Director for Continuing InterProfessional Development and Innovation, and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Community Engagement who are members of the Center’s Internal Advisory Committee related to the Center’s educational and community engagement and scholarship missions. The Director has a collaborative relationship with PhD and DNP Program Directors for students to be involved in the scholarship of the Center. The Director has a reporting relationship with the UNMC Vice Chancellor for Research for research productivity.

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Serves as administrator of the Center.
  • Collaborates with faculty and administrative personnel within the University of Nebraska Medical Center and other University campuses as well as health professionals to plan translational methods to support the science related to self-management for chronic care conditions.
  • Provides leadership in convening and interdisciplinary faculty affiliates around key topical areas of interest to the group to accomplish the aims of the Center.
  • Provides the research infrastructure and a home for Post-doctoral Research Associates.
  • Involves PhD and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students in interdisciplinary team science related to self-management and prevention of chronic illness.
  • Develops and provides shared resources specific to chronic care self-management and prevention that are beyond the existing infrastructure of the Niedfelt Nursing Research Center.
  • Plans for and develops sustainability of the Center by building a portfolio of research, dissemination, and diffusion initiatives in collaboration with university and community partners.

  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to sound fiscal practices in the management of the Center’s budget and hiring key personnel for the administrative core of the Center as it grows.
  • Serves on the College of Nursing Executive Council.
  • Engages in an active program of scholarship.

Appointment Requirements

  • Baccalaureate or master’s degree in nursing, with earned doctorate in nursing or related field (e.g., one graduate degree must be in nursing)
  • Academic rank of Professor
  • Expertise in research methods
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, managerial skills, creativity, ability to make timely decisions, to collaborative effectively, and to be open to the ideas of others and to constructive feedback
  • Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a registered nurse in Nebraska
