General Position Description

The accelerated BSN coordinator position is primarily responsible for planning and facilitating implementation of the curriculum relative to the program objectives and outcomes. The accelerated BSN coordinator communicates with the director of the undergraduate program, the division assistant deans, students, administrators, and agency personnel as appropriate to facilitate the implementation of the accelerated BSN courses across all CON divisions. The individual leads the team that instructs in didactic and clinical settings for the accelerated BSN students.

The accelerated BSN coordinator reports to the undergraduate director and keeps the appropriate division assistant deans, and other administrators informed as needed.

General areas of responsibility include coordination of accelerated BSN curriculum to include development, implementation and instructional methods, advising, communication, evaluation and resource identification. In addition to responsibilities in the accelerated BSN curriculum, the coordinator may be asked to provide input into team members’ ongoing performance and development. This position builds on the role of the faculty team member and provides an opportunity to serve as a leader.

Organizational Relationships

The accelerated BSN coordinator reports to the undergraduate director and maintains open communication with the division assistant deans and student services director.

Responsibilities of the Position

  1. Curriculum and Instruction

    The accelerated BSN coordinator carries primary accountability for facilitating implementation of the accelerated BSN curriculum. The accelerated BSN coordinator works with the course coordinators and other faculty members to ensure a coordinated plan of study and efficient use of resources (classrooms, lab, clinical sites, etc.). The accelerated BSN coordinator works with team members, LRC directors and staff, BSN director and division assistant deans to coordinate specific teaching responsibilities and other activities within the curriculum.

    The accelerated BSN coordinator serves as a catalyst and champion for curriculum development and revisions within the accelerated BSN track.
  2. Advising

    The accelerated BSN coordinator serves as the student academic advisor for the division in which they hold a faculty line (example – if the Accelerated Coordinator is a faculty member on the Kearney division, they advise all Kearney Accelerated BSN students). They also serve as a consultant for academic advising with each division accelerated support personnel (accelerated point faculty) as they work with their own cohort of accelerated BSN students. The accelerated BSN coordinator serves as the team leader for all other division accelerated point faculties, in matters pertaining to the accelerated BSN program.
  3. Communication

    The accelerated BSN coordinator establishes communication channels within the faculty team to facilitate information exchanges and the development of a positive working environment within the team. The accelerated BSN coordinator provides information and facilitates discussion about student advising, teaching methods, student issues, and systems changes to all team members. The accelerated BSN coordinator works in conjunction with the student services team to assist in planning, presenting, and evaluating the orientation activities for the accelerated BSN students. The accelerated BSN coordinator provides mentorship to new faculty team members on responsibilities specific to the accelerated BSN program, offering guidance as needed.
  4. Evaluation

    The accelerated BSN coordinator works with the team members to ensure that evaluation measures are appropriate and relevant within the accelerated BSN courses. For clinical courses, the accelerated BSN coordinator is available to consult with faculty to assist in evaluating student performances and developing improvement plans, if warranted. The accelerated BSN coordinator has oversight and draws periodic input from accelerated faculty team about student progress during and at the conclusion of each semester.
  5. Resources

    The accelerated BSN coordinator collaborates with team members, student services and division assistant deans to determine the targets for student enrollment on each division. The accelerated BSN coordinator works with faculty team members, simulation, division assistant deans, and the undergraduate director to identify necessary faculty and material resources needed to effectively implement the curriculum. The accelerated BSN coordinator works with the accelerated faculty team to assure that contracts and agreements with affiliating agencies are in place.
  6. Compliance

    The accelerated BSN coordinator is responsible for working with the undergraduate director to ensure that compliance and accreditation requirements are met for the BSN degree.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Appointment Requirements

  • A bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing with an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in undergraduate teaching and curriculum development.
  • Evidence of academic scholarship.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, managerial skills, creativity, ability to make timely decisions, to collaborative effectively, and to be open to the ideas of others and to constructive feedback.
