Purpose

The purpose of this committee is to ensure the integrity, quality, and continuous improvement of the undergraduate nursing program. It is responsible for overseeing student admission and progression, guiding curriculum development and evaluation, and supporting examination processes to uphold academic standards and student success.

Functions

  • Admission and Progression
    • Develop and review criteria for undergraduate student admission, progression, graduation, and scholarship/grant awards.
      • Review progression reports and formal program evaluations annually to detect patterns and problem areas and make recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Director of Undergraduate Programs and/or the division assistant dean, or the committee.
    • Evaluate student applications and make recommendations for admission.
    • Monitor student academic performance and recommend actions for students not meeting progression standards.
    • On an annual basis, the committee will review criteria utilized for admission, progression, and graduation of students and recommend changes to the faculty for final action.
  • Curriculum Oversight
    • Design, implement, evaluate, and revise the undergraduate nursing curriculum in alignment with the College’s mission, and accreditation standards.
    • Review all undergraduate courses every four years on a rotating schedule.
    • Review and approve course proposals, changes, and deletions.
    • Review and recommend policies and procedures related to curriculum oversight.
  • Exam Support
    • Provide oversight and support for the development, implementation, and evaluation of undergraduate examinations.
    • Ensure consistency and fairness in testing practices across all divisions.
    • Review exam data to inform curriculum consistency and instructional improvements.
    • Ensure assessment processes align with CCNE and NCSBN requirements.
    • Review and recommend policies and procedures related to undergraduate exams.

Membership

  • The Undergraduate Affairs Committee will consist of 15 faculty members, elected for three-year, staggered terms
    • 2 faculty members elected from each CON division
    • 5 at large members
      • At least 2 of the 5 at large members must include a representative of the BSN-Accelerated track and a representative of the RN-BSN track.
  • Ex-officio members of the committee are the following:
    • Undergraduate student services coordinators from each division
    • Associate Dean for Academic Programs
    • Assistant Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Success
    • Assistant Dean of Evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement
    • Director, Undergraduate Program
    • One undergraduate nursing student from each division
    • Online Testing Coordinator
    • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Application Specialist

Guidelines

  1. The committee will meet at least monthly during the 9 month academic calendar year.
  2. On an annual basis, the committee will review criteria utilized for admission, progression, and graduation of students and recommend changes to the faculty for final action.
  3. All elected members have voting privileges including the chairperson. The Director of the Undergraduate Programs, an ex-officio member, has voting privileges in the case of a tie.
  4. Student members will be excused when confidential student items are discussed.
