1.    Purpose:

The purposes of the Nursing Research Committee are to (a) promote interest and involvement of faculty to achieve the research goals of the College of Nursing and (b) support the development and sustainability of a dynamic culture of research and scholarship throughout the College of Nursing.

2.    Functions:

  1. Consult with the Associate Dean for Research regarding the College of Nursing infrastructure to support research and scholarship productivity.
    1. Recommend policies and procedures to support faculty research development.
    2. Recommend revisions for the Niedfelt Nursing Research Center information provided on the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Nursing Internet and Intranet.
  2. Provide review of scientific and scholarly merit and resource availability for faculty research projects or delegate the review to qualified faculty.
    1. Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care Use Committee (IACUC) applications.
    2. Scientific Review Committee (SRC) applications.
  3. Review the CON strategic plan annually to determine the Research Committee’s yearly goals and contributions.
  4. Review applications for the Pennie Z. Davis Research Award and recommend the award recipient for the year.
  5. Contribute to the building of faculty research and scholarship skills through faculty development.
    1. Encourage dissemination of faculty research within the College of Nursing
    2. Facilitate identification of faculty research and scholarship interests.
    3. Identify strategies to promote research and scholarship collaboration across College of Nursing Divisions.

3.    Membership:

  1. Chairperson, elected annually after the spring elections from the committee membership for a one year term.
  2. Eight (9) Members
    1. Six (6) faculty members elected at-large for staggered three year terms.
    2. Associate Dean for Research.
    3. A representative from The Nebraska Medical Center, Nursing Service.
    4. A student representative from the College of Nursing’s PhD or DNP Program.
  3. Qualification for membership – Faculty members must have graduate faculty status. The representative from The Nebraska Medical Center Nursing Service must be eligible for graduate faculty status.

4.    Guidelines:

  1. Meet monthly, or as needed, during the academic year.
  2. All elected members shall have voting privileges.
