General Position Description

The RN-to-BSN coordinator position is primarily responsible for planning and facilitating implementation of the curriculum relative to the program objectives and outcomes. The RN-to-BSN coordinator communicates with the undergraduate program director, the division assistant deans, students, administrators, and agency personnel as appropriate to facilitate the implementation of the RN-to-BSN courses. The individual leads the team that instructs in didactic and clinical settings for the RN-to-BSN students.

General areas of responsibility include coordination of RN-to-BSN curriculum implementation and instructional methods, advising, communication, evaluation and development of the curriculum, and resource identification. In addition to responsibilities in the RN-to-BSN curriculum, the coordinator may be asked to provide input into team members’ ongoing performance and development. This position builds on the role of the faculty team member and provides an opportunity to serve as a leader.

Organizational Relationships

The RN-to-BSN coordinator reports to the undergraduate program director and maintains open communication with the student services director and other administrators.

Responsibilities of the Position

  1. Curriculum and Instruction

    The RN-to-BSN coordinator carries primary accountability for facilitating implementation of the RN-to-BSN curriculum. The coordinator is responsible for working with the undergraduate program director to ensure that accreditation requirements are met for the BSN degree. The RN-to-BSN coordinator works with the course coordinators and other faculty members to ensure a coordinated plan of study and efficient use of resources (technology, lab, clinical sites, etc.). The RN-to-BSN coordinator works with team members, staff, and undergraduate program director to coordinate specific teaching responsibilities and other activities within the curriculum.

    The RN-to-BSN coordinator serves as a catalyst and champion for curriculum development and revisions within the RN-to-BSN track.
  2. Advising

    The RN-to-BSN coordinator serves as the lead student academic advisor for all RN-to-BSN students, with the responsibility to adjust academic plans as needed, in conjunction with the student services team. They also serve as a consultant for academic advising with each course if faculty need assistance in assuring students are supported throughout the RN-to-BSN program.
  3. Communication

    The RN-to-BSN coordinator establishes communication channels within the faculty team to facilitate information exchange and the development of a positive working environment. The RN-to-BSN coordinator provides information and facilitates discussion about student advising, teaching methods, student issues, and systems changes to all team members. The RN-to-BSN coordinator works in conjunction with the student services team to assist in planning, presenting, and evaluating the orientation activities for the RN-to-BSN students. The RN-to-BSN coordinator provides mentorship to new faculty team members on responsibilities specific to the RN-to-BSN program, offering guidance as needed.
  4. Evaluation

    The RN-to-BSN coordinator works with the team members to ensure that evaluation measures are appropriate and relevant within the RN-to-BSN courses. For RN-to-BSN courses with a clinical component, the RN-to-BSN coordinator is available to consult with faculty to assist in evaluating student performances and developing improvement plans, if warranted related to obtaining clinical credit.
  5. Resources

    The RN-to-BSN coordinator collaborates with team members, student services and undergraduate program director to determine the targets for student enrollment. The RN-to-BSN coordinator works collaboratively with faculty within the RN-to-BSN program and the appropriate personnel in academic programs to arrange for contracts and agreements with affiliating agencies. The RN-to-BSN coordinator works with the student services team to ensure that UNMC CON is able to educate and grant credits to student applicants in their state of origin.
  6. Compliance

    The RN-to-BSN coordinator works with the undergraduate director to assure program compliance with accreditation standards. The RN-to-BSN coordinator works with associate dean of academic programs, undergraduate program director and student services personnel to maintain up to date information on out of state expectations related to didactic and clinical instruction.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Appointment Requirements

  • A bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing with an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in undergraduate teaching and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, managerial skills, creativity, ability to make timely decisions, to collaborative effectively, and to be open to the ideas of others and to constructive feedback.
