General Position Description
The RN to BSN coordinator position is primarily responsible for planning and facilitating implementation of the curriculum relative to the program objectives and outcomes. The RN to BSN coordinator communicates with the director of the undergraduate program, the division assistant deans, students, administrators, and agency personnel as appropriate to facilitate the implementation of the RN to BSN courses. The individual leads the team that instructs in didactic and clinical settings for the RN to BSN students.
General areas of responsibility include coordination of RN to BSN curriculum implementation and instructional methods, advising, communication, evaluation and development of the curriculum, and resource identification. In addition to responsibilities in the RN to BSN curriculum, the coordinator may be asked to provide input into team members’ ongoing performance and development. This position builds on the role of the faculty team member and provides an opportunity to serve as a leader.
Curriculum and Instruction
The undergraduate semester coordinator is responsible to work closely with undergraduate course coordinators as needed to provide smooth implementation of the courses within the semester. Toward that end, activities may include providing for the students a list of all faculty assigned to the semester with contact information, preparation of a schedule of examinations and major assignments across the semester. The Semester I coordinator may be involved in development of curricular orientation materials for incoming undergraduate students. The undergraduate semester coordinator serves as a resource to course faculty in preparation of teaching materials, examination items, teaching strategies, and identification of and continued utilization of clinical and alternative learning experiences. The semester coordinator works with the course coordinators to assure a coordinated student schedule and efficient use of resources (classrooms, lab, clinical sites, etc.). The undergraduate semester coordinator collaborates with the other division semester coordinators to ensure continuity, sequencing, and integration across the curriculum.
Communication
The undergraduate semester coordinator meets regularly and/or as needed to coordinate curriculum implementation with course coordinators within the semester, and with the semester coordinators within the division. Each semester coordinator provides information regarding the curricular, teaching and student issues to the assistant deans, undergraduate program director, and other administrators as needed. The semester coordinator facilitates information exchanges and the development of a positive working environment among faculty teaching in that semester. They coordinate planning meetings for the semester teaching team as needed and mentors new team members and/or graduate assistants.
Appointment Requirements
- A bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing with an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field preferred.
- Experience in undergraduate teaching and curriculum development.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, managerial skills, creativity, ability to make timely decisions, to collaborative effectively, and to be open to the ideas of others and to constructive feedback.
