Procedure

All newly proposed required or elective undergraduate courses must follow this process.

  1. Faculty members wishing to develop courses should consult first with their division assistant dean regarding appropriateness and workload considerations. The following factors are considered in planning/offering nursing electives:
    1. student interest
    2. faculty interest, expertise, availability
    3. agency, preceptor availability
    4. classroom, laboratory availability
    5. cost-effectiveness
    6. minimum & maximum enrollments will be established based on factors a through e above.
  2. Faculty members will contact course inventory management coordinator for access to the system and will complete the new course proposal with assistance from the coordinator.
  3. Faculty member will submit new course proposal form and proposed syllabus to UAC for the next available UAC meeting agenda. Faculty member then meets with the UAC to present new course proposal form for course development and is prepared to answer the following questions at the meeting:
    1. Why is this course being requested?
    2. What implications do you see this course having on the current required curriculum?
    3. What is the relationship to current CON philosophy, organizing framework, and BSN outcomes?
    4. What are cost/workload factors? Describe cost, workload, educational technology and other resources necessary.
  4. If needed, a member of the UAC may be appointed to assist the faculty in further course development.
  5. Upon approval by UAC, the chair of the UAC and a member of the course proposal group will present the new course at the General Faculty Organization meeting for approval.
  6. When the course has been approved by UAC and GFO, the course will be submitted through the course management system, in which the UAC chair must approve to move forward through the system.
