Purpose

Provides faculty and the Undergraduate Affairs Committee (UAC) consistent guidelines in course development.

Scope

Applies to all courses at the undergraduate program level.

Policy

  1. Nursing courses, including electives, must be consistent with the philosophy, organizing framework, and BSN outcomes of the undergraduate program.
  2. Nursing courses may be planned and offered for students in any semester; prerequisites and co-requisites must be specified.
  3. Credit hours may be distributed as didactic only, lab only, clinical only, or any combination of the above. Credit hour allocation for electives may range from 1 to 4 and may be distributed as didactic or didactic/clinical.
  4. The UAC must approve all new courses.
  5. New courses must be approved by UAC first and then by the General Faculty Organization (GFO) according to the following timeline:
Course Implementation   Initial Proposal to GFO   Final Approval by GFO Deadline
      Fall   January   March 1
      Spring   April   September 1
      Summer   November   January 1
  6. If this is a prelicensure course or elective course, it must go through the Nebraska Board of Nursing for approval.
  7. After each new course has been taught, an evaluation must be submitted through the course evaluation software.
