==Purpose==
<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">In the event of a severe weather or other emergency in which the police request that UNMC keep people off the streets in Omaha, the Chancellor will officially close the campus and cancel classes including College of Nursing classes.</li>
<p style="margin-bottom:15px;max-width:70em !important;">This policy provides guidelines for all College of Nursing divisions regarding on-campus and off-campus activities and arranging make-up during inclement weather. </p>
<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">In the event that UNMC does not close or cancel classes, but UNO/UNL/UNK (as the case may be) cancels classes, the CON will suspend classes (i.e. if UNO cancels classes, Omaha CON suspends operations; if UNL cancels classes, Lincoln CON suspends operations; if UNK cancels classes, CON Kearney suspends operations; if NECC cancels classes, Norfolk CON suspends operations).  The Assistant Dean, West Nebraska Division (WND), will determine whether classes will be suspended for the WND.</li>

<li style="margin-bottom:15px;">There may be times when due to rapid weather changes or other circumstances, a decision must be made by faculty about classes or clinical experiences '''when there is no official campus closing'''.  In this event, College of Nursing faculty members must make a professional judgment regarding the wisdom of having class or clinical experiences at this time. If possible, they should consult with the appropriate Program Director, Assistant Dean, or the Associate Dean for Academic Programs in making the decision. Faculty members who decide to cancel classes or clinical experiences are responsible for notifying their students, the clinical area involved, Student Services office, the College of Nursing Dean’s Office, and '''arranging make-up of classes or clinical experience'''.</li>

<p style="margin-bottom:15px;max-width:70em !important;">In the event of a severe weather or other emergency in this division, the Assistant Dean or the Assistant Dean's designee will officially suspend classes and clinical experiences. When the decision has been made to officially suspend classes and/or clinical experiences, the Assistant Dean or designee will notify the course coordinators who will notify the faculty. Faculty will contact the clinical agencies and students.  The Assistant Dean, West Nebraska Division will notify the local broadcast media and the Dean’s Office.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom:15px;max-width:70em !important;">If a course is delivered via zoom simultaneously to multiple campus buildings, the following guidelines apply: </p>

Purpose

This policy provides guidelines for all College of Nursing divisions regarding on-campus and off-campus activities and arranging make-up during inclement weather.

Scope

Policy

UNMC CON Division Operations During Inclement Weather

  • UNMC CON Omaha Division remains operational regardless of weather conditions. UNMC CON Omaha Division follows the UNMC Inclement Weather Policy for official closures.
  • UNMC CON Lincoln Division will comply with their respective chancellors’ decisions regarding weather-related closures of their building.
  • UNMC CON Kearney Division will comply with their respective chancellors’ decisions regarding weather-related closures of their building.
  • UNMC CON Norfolk Division will comply with community college leadership’s decisions regarding weather-related closures of their building.
  • UNMC CON Scottsbluff Division will comply with community college leadership’s decisions regarding weather-related closures of their building.

On-campus & Off-campus Cancellation Procedures

  1. Full-Day Closure of CON Buildings (UNK, UNL, WNCC, Northeast) & Activities Due to Weather
    • All on-campus, in-person activities will be canceled.
    • When possible, scheduled class activities will transition to online via Zoom.
    • A recording will be made available for later viewing.
  2. Late Start Closure of CON Buildings (UNK, UNL, WNCC, Northeast) & Activities Due to Weather
    • All on-campus, in-person activities will be canceled until the building opens.
    • When possible, class activities scheduled to begin prior to the building opening will transition online via Zoom.
    • Consecutive activities will be assessed individually based on:
      • Start time relative to the building’s scheduled re-opening.
      • Student, faculty, and staff travel logistics regarding timing of consecutive activities.
  3. Off-Campus Activities during Closure or Late Start of CON Buildings (UNK, UNL, WNCC, Northeast)
