General Position Description

The Assistant Dean of Evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement (ECQI) is responsible for implementing best practices regarding the on-going assessment, analysis, and interpretation of all aspects of the College’s internal and external evaluation work, and assuring congruence with the mission and vision of the College of Nursing and UNMC.

Organizational Relationships

The Assistant Dean of ECQI reports to the Dean of the College of Nursing and works closely with the College's leadership in advancing the overall assessment and evaluation of the college's programs and missions. As a member of the faculty the Assistant Dean of ECQI participates in the tripartite faculty role of teaching, research and service. External to the College, the position collaborates with the UNMC Academic Affairs Director of Institutional Research as well as peer personnel throughout UNMC and represents the College on various University-level committees related to evaluation.

Administration

  • Provide leadership in providing data that supports an environment where faculty, staff and students can thrive in achieving their professional and academic goals.
  • Maintain consistent, responsive, and frequent communication regarding evaluation efforts within the College.
  • Work in concert with the Dean and the associate deans to create a continuous quality improvement culture to ensure focus on the College's Strategic Plan and goals for all missions.
  • Provide oversight of the College mechanisms for setting, interpreting, and evaluating mission, program, faculty, staff, and student outcomes and goals.
  • Provide oversight of the College mechanisms for databases, data storage, data retrieval, and data usage procedures.
  • Promote interprofessional, innovative, and creative ideas in ECQI efforts.
  • Recommend, guide, foster, and manage change based on aggregate data and interpreted results.
  • Maintain currency in academic nursing, ECQI, accreditation, and related fields through professional development.
  • Oversee and facilitate accreditation process to include ongoing compliance, data collection, submission of reports, and self-study development.

Curriculum

  • Oversee the structure of the College's systematic data collection tools, data collection processes, and review processes for course, track, and program evaluation.
  • Consult with the College's academic program directors, the associate dean for academic programs, curriculum committees, and faculty to identify program data demonstrating the need for course, track, and/or program improvement.
  • Foster development, implementation, and evaluation of course, track, and program improvement efforts undertaken by faculty with input from the College's academic program directors, the associate dean for academic programs, and curriculum committees.
  • Collaborate with the College's academic program directors and the Associate Dean for Academic Programs along with UNMC personnel to incorporate the College's curriculum mapping into the UNMC sponsored curriculum software and electronic systems of record.

Faculty

  • Provide training on external entities' standards and expectations (e.g., Nebraska State Board of Nursing, accreditation bodies)

Staff

  • Provide training on external entities' standards and expectations (e.g., Nebraska State Board of Nursing, accreditation bodies)
  • Make recommendations to the Dean regarding staff personnel needs.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, develop and evaluate staff in direct report lines.
  • Ensure staff adherence to all UNMC and CON policies.
  • Manage ECQI workflow and ensure collaboration across the College.

Students

  • Work closely with Student Services staff to ensure applicant, student, graduate, and alumni data is accurately calculated, interpreted, and represented in reports and visualizations (e.g., graphs, tables, themes).
  • Create and maintain systematic processes for data collection, aggregate analysis, and reporting of student and graduate satisfaction and perceptions of their educational experience.

Community

  • Serve as a liaison with the university and broader community.
  • Be an ambassador of UNMC and the College.
  • Create and maintain systematic processes for data collection, aggregate analysis, and reporting of clinical partner and community input, satisfaction, and improvement suggestions.

Other Duties

  • Utilize resources judiciously for the good of the College.
  • Prepare annual internal and external reports for accreditation and program assessment.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Appointment Requirements

  • This position requires a Master's Degree, doctorate preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in program assessment and evaluation including preparation of evaluation reports and program evaluation materials. Experience in preparing reports for accrediting bodies is preferable.
  • Possess experience and demonstrate skills in administration, interpersonal relations, teaching, and curriculum development, as well as demonstrated scholarly activity.
  • Proven leadership experience in needs assessment, data management, data analysis, data-driven decision making, and systems change management.
  • Ability to motivate and build consensus among faculty and staff.
  • Effective communicator
  • Possess basic knowledge regarding enterprise data systems; extract, transfer, and load (ETL) processes; and data stewardship/governance.
  • Creative problem solver.
  • Ability to manage conflict resolution.
  • Must be registered to practice nursing in Nebraska and demonstrate leadership activity in professional organizations.
  • Terms of employment are in keeping with current University of Nebraska policy. Eligible for UNMC graduate faculty status.
