International Visitors Policy

Basis for Policy

This policy is designed to enable the University to host international visitors while reducing risk and protecting the interests of the University, its visitors and the community it serves. It also provided a means to track international visitors for Compliance and Risk Management purposes.

Authority and Administration

International Health and Medical Education (IHME) are responsible for the administration of this policy at the campus level.

Definitions

UNMC international visitors include:

  • Any citizen of another country who is not paid by UNMC or not enrolled in a UNMC accredited academic program.
  • Any citizen of another country here for a short-term administrative program.
  • Any visiting dignitary of another country.

This list is not necessarily all-inclusive.

Policy

The sponsoring department of all international visitors must register all international visitors through International Health and Medical Education (IHME) in order to assure that all compliance issues including Blackboard trainings, immunizations and health insurance are fulfilled. IHME will also issue approval for processing of the international visitor photo ID badge by the photo ID office. It will be the responsibility of the sponsoring department to bring the visitor to the photo ID office on the first day of the visit. International visitors here for seven calendar days or fewer will receive a visitor badge issued by IHME.

The sponsoring department must complete a registration form and submit it to IHME as soon as possible. Forms for short-term visitors (anyone on campus for seven or fewer days) or long-term visitors (anyone here for eight or more days) and the associated procedures are posted on the IHME website at unmc.edu/ihme. IHME must be notified of all potential international visits at least one month in advance of arrival for long-term stays.
