  1. Authority for naming facilities
    • The use-related (generic) naming of a campus building/wing/other significant campus feature such as a fountain, monument, plaza, garden or landscape area or street shall be approved by the Chancellor and the President of the University.
    • The naming of a room or a small cluster of rooms or other campus features such as a garden or landscaped area in honor of an individual, a family, a group, or an organization shall be approved by the Chancellor and the President of the University. These actions shall be reported to the Board of Regents.
    • The naming of a campus building/wing/other significant campus feature shall be approved by the Board of Regents upon the recommendation of the Chancellor and the President of the University.
  2. Criteria for naming facilities
    • A facility may be named for an individual, family, group or organization that provided or meets one or more of the following criteria:
      • Extraordinary service to the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) as a faculty member or staff member
      • Extraordinary support or service to UNMC
      • Significant financial contributions toward the construction of a facility, an endowment for maintenance and operating costs of a facility, or other program or activity of the University
    • Facilities shall not be named for persons who are currently employed by UNMC. Proposals to honor such individuals should not be submitted earlier than five years following the departure, death or retirement of the person from UNMC.
